PRACTICAL HELP TO GOLD PROSPECTORS.
“A FAIR GODSEND.” In accordance with its policy of placing unemployed men in useful work wherever possible, the Unemployment Board is encouraging experienced gold miners to prospect likely areas or to prepare promising claims for further 'development in various localities on the West Coast. These men receive a subsidy from the Board’s funds, the •rate for married men being 30s per week and that for single men weeklyIn some instances quite satisfactory results have been reported, while it most cases the men are obtaining return* which they consider better than they were receiving under the relief scheme. The point to be stressed is 1 that these men are engaged in work that is ‘ ‘ worth while, ’ ’ and that might possibly lead to important. discoveries of minerals. That the Board’s assistance is valued hy the prospectors is : shown by the following typical letter 'which has come to hand: —“Dear Sir, —Ro your enquiry as to the effect of dole to miners, X ’beg to inform you that it. is a fair God-sond; it gives a party a chance to get the dead wnrk done to get a claim opened up. , Please accept my thanks for help, and I trust others getting the same assistance have the same (i- bettor prospects.”
