Walker Wins British Empire Championship
TOO GOOD FOB MEESEE AUCKLAND, Last Night. The contest for the heavyweight wrestling championship of the British Empire was decided in the Town hall on Saturday night, George Walker, the ex-Canadian, now a resident of Auckland, defeating Billy Meeskc, of Australia. Meeske was disqualified in the sixth round for making excessive use of the ropes. Up to that point each man had gained a submission fall with a reverse toe-hold, Meeske getting the first in the second round and Walker evening in the fifth. The bout was bright and lively. Meeske did nearly all the attacking in the first three rounds, but after that Walker commenced to demonstrate his superiority, and only Meeske’s persistently holding the ropes saved him from being thrown several times. There was a large attendance to witness the contest.
