Robbery in Melbourne
CONSTABLE CALLOUSLY SHOT DOWN THIEVES DECAMP WITH BIG HAUL. MELBOURNE, Nov. 21. While acting as an armed escort to three employees of a city firm who were carrying a bag containing £940 to a bank, plain-clothes Constable Charles Derham, aged 29, was shot through the head when three armed bandits held them up in Flinders Lane. The robbers then grabbed the money and decamped in a car. The street was crowded at the time with late shoppers. The constable’s condition is critical.
