ALTERATIONS WHERE NECESSARY.
COALITION’S INTENTIONS REGARDING ARBITRATION ACT.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. In an interview, the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon, G. W. Forbes) said: “We have no intention of altering or removing any part of the Arbitration Act that is for the good of the workers; but, in the opinion of the Government, the' time has come when the harassing rules and regulations of the Act will in some measure have'to be altered. “We have come to a time when the keeping down of unemployment is of the greatest importance. There is no doubt that the restrictions of the Act have been responsible for much of our trouble.” Mr Forbes added that Mr Holland had said that the Coalition would do away with all awards and agreements, and that the labourer would be lowered down to serfdom. “It is intended,” said Mr Forbes, “merely to alter the Arbitration Act in so far as it absolutely necessary.”
