HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

The sub-committee, set up by the committee of the Home and School Association to deal with any matters that may arise during the recess, haa met on two occasions recently. There ■were present Mesdames Blenkhorn and Stallard and Messrs Kerslake, Meyers and Crisp. Communications from the Wellington School Committees' and Educational Federation were dealt with. —It was decided to forward a copy of Mr Linklater’s reply dealing with educational economies to the organising secretary, Mv N. A. Ingram. A suggested visit of Mr Ingram and other officials at a later date was left in abeyance meanwhile. An invitation to the Home and School Committee, extended by the Boy Scouts’'Committee, to meet the North Island! Comndissioner, Mr Amots, /on the 9th November was accepted. On behalf of the Scouts’ Committee Mr Meyers explained the financial position of the Scouts, and their need cf equipment. It was unanimously decided to hold a shop day on November 14th to assist with the provision of badges, splints and regulation uniforms. A request by the Agricultural Club to arrange for afternoon tea on December 11th during the final judging of the Calf Club competition was readily agreed to by the ladies of the committee, who stated they would be pleased to assist in this way. A charge of ninepenee would be made for afternoon tea. The central heating account showed a credit balance of £4B 17s fid. As a subsidy is not available from the, Education Department, it was decided to write to the Levin District High School Committee and ask, if they, would ask the Education Board for ft definite estimate of the cost of instil' -hng central heating in the infant school.
