5 MANAWATU AND WEST COAST ORGANISATION. L The monthly meeting of the £xecu- * *tiye committee of the Manawatu and 5 \V cst Coast Dairy Association was held i ou Thursday, Mr S. A. Broadbelt pre- ! siding. Also present were Messrs } Small, Hansen and Knudsen. The National Dairy Association wrote ptating that it did not consider the 1 holding of the annual conference by' 1 the board would be to the advantage : of all concerned. ► The chairman said that he had in- - -terviewed Mr Backhouse, of the National Dairy Association, in connection v, Ith the matter and consideration had been promised. He (the chairman) ■expressed the opinion that the standing orders of the conference, would have to be altered. He had inter- : viewed Mr Brash, of the Dairy Board, who had set up a committee to bring ' flown a repo'rit concerning a confereiice. No other information had (been 1 received from the Board. . Mr Hansen expressed the view that the conferences served a useful purpose. The trouble was not with the conference, but with the delegates Who attended. Mr Small cited the case of: three conferences which had cost £25,000. He that there was nothing to ,show for the expenditure. The matter was allowed to lapse un- , til further information is received. ■ OVERLAPPING TROUBLE. The Kairanga Dairy Company wrote agreeing to assist concerning the elimiiiation of overlapping, but stated that the present scheme would have to be altered. Mr Small said that his company was prepared to help if a “clear-cut” job were done. Definite areas for suppliers .would have to be established. The Chairman: It will take a long time to define areas, but there can be ,a refusal -tp take cream from certain areas. Mr Small added that his company was prepared to go so far as forming ;one large company with smaller factories. He was sorry that his company would not agree with the system, but it would not take the cream'of a party to the agreement. The matter was then permitted to lapse. COMPANIES’ REPRESENTATION. Mr Knudsen asked why there Was not a greater proportion of’cheese factory representatives on the executive. The chairman said, that it seemed, speaking generally, that the -cheese factories were not taking an interest in the matter. “They seemed to think that they were getting no consideraticn. If they gave us , something, to consider we would do so. It is a pity they will not join up,’.’/he ..added: Mr Small said that a yircularmight bo sent to factories pointing iout the small subscription.
