Sydney League Tourists Win Opening Game
DELIGHTFUL EXHIBITION OF CODE. WHANGABEI, Last Night. The Sydney Eastern Suburbs Kugby League team opened their New Zealand tour this afternoon when they defeated North Auckland by 23 to 11. The visitors showed delightful combination,, their passing being first-class, playing, the ball with speed and accuracy. The outstanding players were: JEiong (fullback), Brown (three-quarters), who made electric rushes, and Norman (fiveeighths), whose determined running frequently smashed the defence. In'theforwards who held their' own against a good paclc, Pearce and Stehr wereprominent. The Northland team did not play as well as in rep. fixtures this year, the oniy try being scored by O'Callaghan, a forward. Hamilton converted thisand also kicked three penalty goals. JTlie first spell ended 8 to 4 in favour of the visitors. ■ '
