RACING AT OTAKI.

SPRING MEETING OPENS. EVENTS RUN IN BRILLIANT WEATHER. (Special to "Chronicle.") OTAKIj, Oct. 91 The weather is gloriously fine for the opening day of- the Otaki Maori Racing 'Club's spring meeting, and the track is in good order. There is a fanattendance. Following are the results: KAPITI HACK HURDLES. Of 90 sovs. One mile and a-half. (4) WARZONE—Mr C. H. Weekes' eh.m., 6yrs. (Bisogne —Woletta), -10.9 (S. Anderson) .., 1 (1) MANUIRI—Mr :G. M. Warzone led to the last hurdle, where Manuiri challenged, but failed to catch the leader by half a length. Okapua was five lengths further back third. Old Gold was fourth. Time, 2 min. 52 sec. In the first Division the field settled down, with Miladi leading from Lyrical, Sanguine King, Valrewa, and St. Roger, and they were in that order into the straight. Miladi was beaten in the run home, Sanguine King finishing best, three lengths in front of St. Roger. Miladi was third a> length away. Time, lmin. 14 3-'ssee. (Winner trained 'by A. M.Wright at Feilding). Second Division: Acorn, Lady Makere, Zephyrus, Kotahi Eka and Guerestor were, first to show out. Kotahi Eka, who was at a good price, was well placed at the home turn, and went through to win by half a length from Lady Makere. Zephyrus was two lengths further back third. Time, 1 min 14 3-ssec. From a straggling walk-up start Movietone was first to show up, but when the field settled down Appledore was showing the way to Movietone, Nightmare, Arrowzone, Flakewhite, and Eminent. Appledore led into the straight from Arrowzone, Nightmare, Movietone, but in a " fighting finish, Nightmare got the verdict from Appledore by a neck, and as a result is now out of hack class.
