Just when the prospects were appearing brighter of settling the Manchurian question, the Japanese military precipitated a further crisis, this "kfjternoon, when twelve military bombing planes launched an air raid on €hinchow (on the Dairen railway), -dropping high explosives. Reports declare that the attack was carefully planned and executed with -the full .sanction of the Japanese military officials at Mukden, who declare that disciplinary action was necessary. Driven to desperation by the demands of the Chinese public for retaliation, Marshal Chang Hsuelhliang as believed to be preparing to forcibly oppose the Japanese. He has ordered rthe Manchurian forces to concentrate .at Chinchow. CHINESE TEMPORARY HEADQUARTERS WAS OBJECTIVE. MANY CIVILIANS VICTIMS. PMPINIG, Oct. 8. A reliable foreign report states that twelve Japanese aeroplanes bom'bed dhinchow, the temporary headquarters i -of the Mukden Provincial Government, 150 miles southward of Mukden. Considerable damage was done to buildings. The casualties as yet are not known. 1 Chinese messages report that many •civilians were killed in the crowded -railway station.
