♦ BIG FALL IN GOVERNMENT DEPOSITS. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The banking returns for the September quarter reveal a further fall in Government deposits and in the demand for free deposits. Government deposits are down by £905,314. Compared with the corresponding - period of last year free deposits have decreased by £4,212,510. Fixed deposits have increased Dy £2,433,288. Government deposits total £2,(394,78(5*; free deposits total £16,590,661; fixed deposits total £34,180,556. Advances have decreased by £1,175,836, the total being £50,224,004. Discounts totalled £709,558 compared with £1,107,061. The note circulation has contracted from £6,039,175 to £5,584,542 and com and bullion totals £6,942.332.
