WORST IS OVER; BEST YET TO BE. TURNING POINT OF SLUMP LONDON. Oct. 5. The first expression of opinion by any member of the “Big Five’’ Banks on the suspension of the gold standard is contained in the monthly review of the Midland Bank, which declares that the outlook may legitimately he viewed with calm and confidence. There is no ground for panic or even pessimism. Britain’s plight is no worse than that of others. The temporary abandonment of gold may, indeed, mark the turning point from world slump to world recovery, since it intensifies the urgent need for international collaboration. ‘ ‘ The worst is over and the best is yet to come.’’
