DISPUTE IN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. The Southland Presbytery to-day discussed a resolution from the Western District Bible Class committee that it be a recommendation to the Dominion Council of the Bible Class Union that the appointment of the young men’s travelling secretary be delayed for 12 months. During the discussion there was some criticism of alleged failure on the part of the Bible Class Union to recognise the authority of the Presbyterian Assembly. One speaker went so far as to characterise the movement as a “ghastly failure.” The Presbytery carried a resolution expressing its high appreciation of the work of the Bible Class movement within the church but felt that the appointment of a Dominion secretary should be made with the authority of the Assembly, The Presbytery also decided to refer the correspondence of the Western District Bible Class committee to the Assembly for its review of the subject of the appointment of a secretary.
