Gandhi’s Demands for India
CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE MAY BE RENEWED Received Wednesday, l a.m. DELHI, April- 28. According to a Bombay newspaper Gandhi stipulates the following as the conditions for attending the Round Table Conference in London:— Drastic cuts in military expendi-. ture. Safeguards for Indian State subjects. Complete fiscal autonomy and scrutiny of the public debt. These conditions are said to have been made in a despatch which Gandhi handed to Lord Irwin before his departure. Gandhi and Vallabhai Patel, president of the Congress, are understood to be considering the revival of the civil disobedience campaign as the result of the Government’s alleged failure to carry out the terms of the Delhi agreement between Gandhi and Lord Irwin.
The Congress declares that political prisoners are not being released and confiscated lands are not being restored in accordance with the pact.
