SHANNON MUNICIPAL ELECTION

MR E. BUTT RETURNED UNOPPOSED FOR MAYORALTY. TEN NOMINATIONS FOR COUNCIL. Nominations in connection with the biennial municipal elections, which takes place on Wednesday, May 6th, closed at noon on Friday last. For the Mayoralty of Shannon, Mr E. Butt, the sitting Mayor, was returned unopposed, while Mr A. E. Hyde was returned unopposed to represent th e borough of Shannon on the Horowhenua Electric Power Board. For the election of eight councillors, ten nominations havd> been received. These being two above the required number, an election will be necessary. The following candidates have been nominated; those with-an asterisk by their names being sitting members: — * ANDERSON, Samuel CLAYTON, William * CURRAN, James (farmer) *CURRAN, James (hotelkeeper) GREY, Claude Peyten HOOK, Harold Edward *HYDE, Alfred Ernest McLEAN, James RADFORD, Walter *THWAITES, Thomas Colin Of the present Council, Messrs R. Downes, R. Hook and D. Lhurvig have not offered themselves for re-election.
