OTAKI NEWS.
OTAKI, Monday. A start was made to-day with thelevelling of the sports area at ther Otaki State School. Forty-seven men started work on theOtaki Borough roads this morning under the unemployment scheme. The extension of telephone hours for Sunday has ceased much to the regre_ of the majority of subscribes. T* „ old hours, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 5 p. ► t c . 6 p.m. will now be reverted to. A Maori choir, which will include a. number from Otaki, is being formed totour New Zealand. Several concertswill be given in aid of unemployed. Mr. and Mrs. Richards, of Palmerston North, are at present on holiday: in Otaki, staying with their son, Mi. DRichards. Mrs. Walter Jepson entered the Pal- , merston North hospital on Thursday and on Friday underwent an operation: for appendicitis. Mrs. Jepson is reported to be making good progress. Mr. Byron Brown leaves on Monday to judge elocutionary competitions at Hokitika, and on the 18th leaves Auckland for'Suva on a business trip. Mr., Brown expects to be away for about two months. Mr M. H. Ayre, Mr. and Mrs. Blake, and Miss Blake, all of Miramar (Wellington), Mr. and Mrs. Douglas, Mis» i Douglas, Master Alfred' Douglas, of . Palmerston North, were visitors to Otaki during the week-end..
