SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORTS.
TRIANGULAR CONTEST FOR THOMSON SHIELD. LEVIN WINS THE TROPHY. The Secondary Departments of the Levin, Foxton, and Marton District High Schools each year send teams' to compete in summer sports for the trophy known as the Thompson Shield, given by a resident of Marton. Tennis, swimming and athletics are indulged in. The competition, which has previously been held in December, was this year held in March. On the two previous occasions Foxton not only entertained the other two schools with regal hospitality, but also won the shield. Last Saturday the competition was again held at Foxton, where the visiting teams were entertained in Foxton’s usual hospitable way, but Levin was successful in bringing home the shield for the first time. I Levin’s teams were as follows: Tennis.—Boys: G. Owen, C. Pentecost, L. Royal, I. von Hartitzsch. Girls: N. Thompson, J. Mackenzie, J. Leary, D. Nicholson. Swimming.—Boys: C. Pentecost, L. Royal, O, Wilson, A. Sievers. Girls: L, Capewell, D. Stedman, J. Mackenzie, D. Nicholson, N. Park. Athletics. —Boys: C. Pentecost, V. Bateman, W. Palmer, L. Coles, F. Rosenberg. Girls: M. McDonald, E. Freeman, F. Fogden, M. Coles, U. Stilwell. The games were won as follows: — TENNIS. Levin. Foxton. Marton.
