Mrs Mason, Seatoun, Wellington, is visiting her son, Mr A. Mason, Stout Street.
Mr C. Hudson, of the Public Works .Department at Mangaore, has been transferred to Wellington. He has been succeeded at Mangaore by Mr N. ■Oustafsen, from the head office &t "Wellington.
On Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Mr Young entertained thirty members of -the Mother ’s Union at afternoon tea .at the Vicarage, Stout Street, when a very pleasant time was enjoyed by all.
It is with regret that we have to record the death of Mrs Ericksen, in the Dannevirke hospital. Mr Samuel Ericksen and the late Mrs Ericksen resided in Shannon at one # time and had many friends in this district.
Ninety-three men have been allocated work for this week by the local unemployment committee. Thirty-nine ■of them are employed by the Shannon Borough Council in widening the cuttngs on Crowther’s Hill and in Thompson Street; thirty-two are engaged by the Buckley Drainage Board; and twenty-two are to be employed by the Makerua Drainage Board,
The Shannon ladies who have been -collecting and forwarding clothing and cooking to assist Palmerston North in relief work caused by the recent disastrous earthquake report that a ..splendid response was received to their appeal for cakes this week and as a result several boxes of cakes were forwarded to the Palmerston North committee on Wednesday. The ladies have also been very busy sewing and a case of new garments made by the ladies •of Shannon has been forwarded, while several pounds worth of material has also been sent to be made up. In connection with the appeal from the Mayor of Palmerston North for scones and cakes each week, word has been received that no further supplies will be needed for Palmerston North.
