SHARED BY LORD BLEDISLOE. A GENEROUS OFFER. The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes) announced yesterday that he had received a communication from His Excellency the GovernorGeneral requesting that his official salary and allowance as Governor-General should be subject to the reduction of 10 per cent, proposed in the ease of salaries of officers in the Public Service throughout the Dominion. Mr Forbes has written to His Excellencv expressing the appreciation of the * Government at Lord Bledisloe’s public-spirited action, and intimating that his very kind offer is gratefully accepted. His Excellency receives a salary of £SOOO and an allowance of £2500. SALARIES DOWN. CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 16. The Christchurch City Council decided by a majority of one to reduce the salaries of its officers, and the new scale will be in operation on April I. The following recommendation of the Finance Committee was agreed to: — “That, as the economic conditions of the Dominion call for material reduction in the costs of government, the reduction of salaries be made to operate as from April Ist, 1931, and that, where the Council is paying wages and allowance in excess of award rates, the award rate be reverted to as from April Ist, 1931. ”
