RACING AT WANGANUI.

Autumn Fixture Opens To-morrow.

The Fields Reviewed.

(By “Silken Rein.”) The Autumn fixture of the Wanganui Jockey Club will open at Wanganui to-morrow and conclude on Saturday. The acceptance list this year is small, but the handy sized fields will make for better racing on the turning track at Wanganui.

The form disclosed at the Egmont' and Taranaki fixtures is usually taken as the guide at this meeting, though surprises of earlier fixtures have been responsible for Wanganui being labelled the “graveyard for punters. ’’ The class this year is perhaps not quite up to the usual standard, but the quality is sufficient to provide interesting contests. Racing will commence at 12 noon and the programme is as follows: —

The best recent form of those engaged in the hurdles is that of Koyal Acre, who won at Egmont and was placed in two starts at Taranaki fixture, Avro ran second to Easterley in his last start over hurdles, at Manawatu holiday meeting, where he also won a high weight. In two later highweight events he was beaten out of the money. Elicit has not raced for a considerable time, but he was good, while Democratic who won this race last year, has not shown iiis true form this season. He is open to improvement Wyei'ord and Disrank are possibilities on Ashhurst form and Atarcria, may do best of the others. The favoured pair may be— Koyal Acre Avro.

Ansus i o Both Statuary and Green Linnet were winners at Taranaki last week and they will command respect if started in this event, though at its present stage the race bears a fairly open aspect. Llandudno does not appear capable of getting very much further than a mile, but he represents good class, while Eaglet, after winning one race, lias not carried on as was anticipated. Melissa is a consistent galloper that deserves consideration and she may prefer this race to the concluding one. Both Paiko and Arisus cannot be disregarded, while Skyridcr, who is working well, has strong claims for support. It should be a fairly even betting race and a reliable pair are — Melissa Llandudno.

The runners engaged in the Maiden race are not a very good lot and speculation will not be brisk. Only three of those accepted have recent placed form, while some of the others have not raced in recent months. Enter, who ran third at Foxton, has unplaced performances since, but he will have to be considered in a weak field, while Orby's Choice, with two thirds and a second, reads likely. Tahahue has a chance on his December form, when he ran second to Kissless at Taranaki, and he may do best of the others. The vote is for — Orby’n Choice JUVENILE HANDICAP, 5 furlongs. Movie Star 5) ' Open Cheque 710 Isa 0 Royal Bengal 7 6 Knollmere 8 3 Paparua 7 0 Teller 711 View Halloa 7 0 Sight Draft 711 Impetuous 7 0 The Juvenile race for two and three-year-olds should be a good thing for Teller, who in his last outing, won the Hopeful Stakes at Trentham. H e has since .shown pace in wording gallops and promises to do well in the immediate future. Movie Star and Isa at f;eir best will havb to be considered and Knollmere, if produced in the right order, is a distinct possibility. Th-.; latter has not raced for some time. An improver seen out at Taranaai was Im duous and he looks likely to repeat his form of last week. Open Cheque is overdue and should not be long now and Paparua has a chance on Egmont running. The number of possibilities make it an open race, but the two that may do best are — Teller Impetuous. EARLE STAKES, 1 -] miles. In tlm Shade 811 Chopin 7 6 First Acre 713 Moutoa Paitoaa 7 12 Treasury 7 4 Roy. Parade 712 Shrewd 7 4 Both In the Shade and First Acre have shown promise of winning early, hut have tailed to do so and It is near time they re Aimed their supporters a little. So far as their chances to-mor-row are rnrmod, neither can he disregarded, though their recent form is not on -.»uraging. In the Taranaki Cup In the Shade flushed third and the pair that beat him are not in tomorrow. "That is one point in his favour, but First Aero is meeting him on 7 lbs bettor terms and figures point the chances of the latter. Both will ihake a stronger appeal, however, than

Paitonu, but Eoyal Parade is going to be a hard one to beat if he repeats last Saturday’s form. Chopin will also have to be considered on Egmont running and the course at the Elver city may suit him. Moutoa Treasury and Shrewd have outside chances. Though only a seven-horse race, it is a difficult one, and the judge may have to decide between y Royal Parade Chopin.

In the event of Statuary preferring his earlier engagement this field will be reduced to a one-dividend one but the fact that the race is for apprentices only and the mount on Statuary will probably go to T. Webster, his chances appear to be excellent in this event and it is more than likely he will be reserved. Joyspear is racing to form and may prove hardest to dispose of. Of the others Kilorcll and Gasnapper may do best. The favoured pair will undoubtedly be Statuary Joyspear. PETRIE HACK HANDICAP, 6

Quite a good field lias accepted for this event and a good contest should result. Arisus, Para too and Tea Queen ha Vo recent winning form while Leisure, Playground, Koval Finance and Tar Baby have performed well enough in recent months to be given a chance. Merry Cry has not done as well as expected but is liable to improve quickly and Hinewai may do better with the experience gained lately. The race bears a fairly open aspect but two that should do well on recent form are Arisus Royal Finance, FLYING HANDICAP, 6 furlongs.

The sprinters engaged in the concluding race are good class. Laughing Prince usually races well when fresh and he may be made favourite. A seasoned runner however like Bay Acre may have it on him in a close finish but to win Bay Acre will need to get away well. He has shown plenty of early speed but his barrier manners are not all that could be desired. Ceremony is likely to win soon while among the others Portray, Just an Idea and Blue Paper appeal. The latter has registered some brilliant efforts recently and watchers at Awapuni are expecting her to do well in this race tomorrow. Malayan has Taranaki form to support him while Melssa may prefer her earler engagement. For the recovery dvdend speculators may look to Bay Acre Laughing Prince. RACING FIXTURES.
