HASTINGS, Last Night

In connection with the general repatriation to the devastated area, the Hastings authorities state that permits to return through the police pickets and other permits now in existence do not entitle refugees to a free railway journey back. The railway will accept only the special permit issued for the purpose. Tire Mayor of Hastings has received a letter from the Governor-General expressing sympathy with the people in the crisis and offering help in any way possible. The name of Mrs. C. Scott, Oliphant road, in the Hastings casualty list should be Miss Jean Scott.

Hastings has felt two ov throe minor tremors during the last 24 hours, including one swift, sudden bump at D 2.55 this afternoon.
