MR SNOWDEN FACES A STERN STRUGGLE.

LABOUR PARTY CONFERS. PRESSURE MAY MODIFY HIS ATTITUDE Received Sunday, S p.m. LONDON, Feb. 13. It is generally felt that Mr. Snowden is engaging in one of the sternest struggles of his career when he meets the whole Parliamentary Labour party on February 17, when the Chancellor’s critics are determined to secure more definite ideas of his intentions, Mr. Lloyd George’s attack on the city was obviously directed to Labour back-benchers and has not rendered Mr, Snowden’s meeting of the party easier. Extremists regard it as a welcome antidote to Mr. Snowden’s home truths and it has also accentuated their irritation against Mr. Snowden. They are complaining bitterly that it has been left to a Liberal to give a fighting lead It is one of the ironies of the situation that Mr. Lloyd George is at present the left wings ‘ ‘ white headed boy.” Mr. Snowden’s critics believe the pressure they are now able to exert will ensure a modification of his attitude. Meanwhile, Mr. Mosley and his back-bench associates, in view of the meeting, have issued a further manifesto against the Government declaring the failure to develop an economic policy is now producing an attacic against the standard of living. The present attacks on wages is the result of industrial dispute and the fault Ol nether side of industry, but was inevitable until the Government adopts a policy which will avoid disaster.
