A TEST CASE IN SOUTH AFRICA. PROF. DUPLESSIS’S DISMISSAL. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright ) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) 1 CAPETOWN, August 25. Professor Duplessis’s action against the Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church, whereby he seeks to nullify his dismissal from the Theological Seminary at Stellenbosch University for alleged heresy, has opened before three judges of the Supreme Court. Counsel for the Synod held that the Supreme Court could not override the Church Court on the question of doctrine.
Plaintiff’s counsel argued that plaintiff had not broken any church doctrine. He also, contended that the interpretation of all contracts rested with the civil courts.
