RUGBY FOOTBALL.

WELLINGTON 111 21 v. HOROWHENXJA II 6.

As a curtain-raiser to the AucklandWellington Rugby contest in Wellington on Saturday, a match was played between the Wellington third grade representatives and Horowhenua juniors. At half time the score was 6—5 in favour of the visitors, who had all the better of the first spell, during which Croon scored a try, and Hutt kicked a penalty, while Mouat scored a try for Wellington, Gentry converting. In the second half, the Wellington team showed greatly improved form, and put on another 16 points. Hill kicked a penalty goal, and converted two tries by Merritt and Strickland, whi’e Diamond scored an unconverted try.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS TOURNEY,

In the primary schools tournament at the Hurt, Horowhcnua had a hard proposition in the match against Taranaki, but they faced it gamely. It would have taken a much heavier team than Horowhcnua to have beaten Taranaki, whose forwards were always following up and whose backs swept downfield at a great pace. The final score was 34 to nil. The scores for Taranaki were Robinson (2), Tito (4), Richards (2). Aitken converted 2, Richards 2, and Eagar 1.
