HOT-HEADED CHINESE JUDGE.
INSULTING REMARKS ADDRESSED TO BRITISH LAWYER.
WANTS TO FIGHT TO A FINISH
(By Telegraph-Preaa Assn.-Copyright.) (Received Tills Day, 10.50 a.m.) SHANGHAI, March 11.
An international incident will probably arise as a consequence of the unwarranted and insulting remarks addressed by the Provincial Court Judge, Yang Chao Lung, a newly appointed youthful member of the Chinese judiciary, to a lawyer, Mr Blumfield Brown, a prominent British practitioner and member of one of the oldest legal firms. At a civil hearing, Yang called Brown “ dpll-witted, dishonest, clumsy and foolish,' ’ causing the British Consular Deputy, Mr Herbert, who is still eligible to preside at the Provincial Court pending the new agreement, to instantly vacate the bench, following a carefully repeated translation of the Judge’s remarks. The incident is regarded locally as an unhappy augury to the future success of the Provincial Court. Mr Herbert is officially reporting the incident. Yang declares that he is ready to fight Brown to a finish.
