SWIMMING CARNIVAL.

FINAL GATHERING OF LEVIN SEASON TO-MORROW NIGHT.

CENTRE CHAMPIONS TO COMPETE

Excellent entries have been received for the closing carnival of the’season of the Levin Amateur Swimming and Life-Saving Club. This is to be held at the Coronation Baths to-morrow commencing at 8 o’clock, and should draw a large attendance, as a comprehensive programme has been arranged and some high-class performers will be seen in action. Among the clubs that will be represented, besides Levin, are Palmerston North, Apollo (P.N.), Y.M.C.A. (P.N.);'Feilding and Foxton. Miss Patty Sporle, the 13-year-old Pcilding girl who holds three Manawatu championships., has entered for the ladies’ 50 yards handicap, in which there will be three heats. Ira Palmer, the Levin club member who is the 100 yards champion of the Centre, will take part in the sports, and ot ier noted performers will be Judd, of Palmerston, Harrison and the Hinni boys, of Foxton. Judd, who is not yet 16, was runner-up to Palmer in the Manawatu championship. In the boys’ 25 yards race he will be conceding up to eight seconds. An idea of the support that is forthcoming for the events can be gathered from the fact that there arc four heats in the men’s 100 yards, seven in the men’s 50 yards,* five in the boys 25 yards, and three in the 75 yards breast-stroke, while ten teams have entered for the flying squadron contest and there will be a groat many competitors in the open diving event (running, standing and high dive). The last sports were held under adverse conditions, and owing to the difficulty of finding a date for the final gathering that would not clash with other clubs’ arrangements, the Levin club has had to bring this meeting on at short notice; consequently programmes will not be issued, but particulars relating to each swimmer will be given by an announcer. The prices of admission are Is for adults and 6d for children.
