OUR EGYPTIAN INTERESTS CYNICALLY SACRIFICED.
LOBS LLOYD’S OEIIICISM.
Received Friday, 7.40 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 6
Lord Lloyd, at an Empire Union luncheon, said ho was sent to Egypt to guard certain vital interests and to maintain the 1923 Declaration in its entirety, with the result that disturbances and turbulence were replaced by peace and growing friendliness, the reserved points being maintained without a shot being fired. He protested against the cynicism and levity with which the present Government proposed to abandon » vital strategetie position, to sacrifice our position in great markets, which had been built up by Britishers' courage and enterprise and to abandon the helpless masses who always looked to Britain for protection and emancipation.
"The same Government, which carelessly throws away real and existing markets in the Bast, is willing to sell our country's soul in order to buy a purely problematical Soviet trade in the West," he said.
