■ Blenheim was awakened at dawn this morning by an extraordinary electrical 'disturbance. The peace of the night was suddenly shattered by booming thunder which concluded with two sharp detonations of such force as to shake the buildings. Twelve seconds after its beginning the disturbance ended.

After the prolonged dry spell the drought in Canterbury broke last night and refreshing rain is still falling. “It is worth a guinea a drop,” said a prominent i farmer. Many oat crops had been seriously affected.
