Rumours are circulating in Manchuria that M. Karakhau is alleged to have declared that, unless the Sino-Soviet -controversy is settled within 20 days, the Soviet Russian Government will assume control of the Chinese Eastern Railway by means of force.

Hostilities on the Manchurian frontier have been reduced to a minimum. Soviet aeroplanes arc daily rcconnoitering the Chinese linos. Occasionally the Soviet trenches resound with machinegun fire directed at rho Chinese lines.
