LADIES AT HOCKEY.
GISBORNE. Last Night
As the result of to-day’s games, the seventh session in the New Zcalana Indies’ hockey championship tournament, (Southland and Canterbury are to meet in the final to-morrow. The weather to-day was again springlike and the grounds in perfect condition.
In view of the-interest in the posi tions of the teams, there was an at tendance of about 2500.
Principal interest centred in the Rna-hine-Southland match in A section, neither team haying been defeated and in the Canterbury-Wcllington game in the B section, neither of which also, bad suffered a reverse.
Both games were thrilling to the last degree and roused the spectators to heights of enthusiasm, the result in each case being in doubt until the final whistle.
la A section, the winners were Poverty Bay A, South Canterbury ami Southland and in the B section. Hawke’s Bay, Eastern Southland ami Canterbury. A SECTION. Southland two defeated Ruahino one. Poverty Bay A 3 defeated Rotorua on«. SECTION B. Canterbury 3 defeated Wellington 2. Eastern Southland 4. defeated Wairarapa one. , Hawke’s Bay 9 defeated Poverty Bay B nil. The position of the teams at the end of the day, which concludes all the association’s play except the final tomorrow, is as follows: —
