A case before the Paddington Police Court is creating interest in racing circles.. Three women —Margaret Sumace rbcll, Marion Moody, and Elvira Peterson —are the complainants against Frank Bennett (46) and Len Houston (24), both of whom are charged with •sonspiring to defraud the women nam•od of large sums of money. The women’s story is that they entrusted sums totalling £SOO for investment to Bennett anjd Houston, who from time to time declared that they had “sure things” at races —in fact that they had the field “tied up.” The women wore informed on a number of occasions that they had won, and were persuaded to leave their winnings with the who eventually told the women that their total winnings amounted to about £22,000. The defendants were finally pressed to hand over the supposed wdnaings, but they disappeared. • The- case was adjourned.
