BEAM WIRELESS.
MERGER COMPANY TAKING OVER AT END OP month. NO EARLY PROSPECT OF REDUCED RATES. (By Telegraph-Press Assn .-Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9,45 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 4. It is authoritatively stated that the Empire beam telegraphy systems are being "handed over to the merger company at the end of September, It was also stated that the Post Office, which was originally budgeting to work beams at a small profit, found it converted such a large surplus, through the growth of traffic, that it was contemplating a substantial cut in rates before the merger was mooted. This prospect had definitely evaporated, because, it was pointed out, the basis of capitalisation of the merger precluded the chance of a reduction for a long time ahead, though there was little fear of any increase regarding wireless telephony to Australia. It was stated that it would be at least six months before a commercial service was instituted. This would be definitely retained dn the hands of the Post Office.
