For having acted to the prejudice of good order and naval discipline, Engineer Lieutenant-Commander William Edgar, of H.M.A.S. Anzac, has been deprived of two years' seniority and placed on the retired list. This was the sentence of a court-martial.
It is learned that the original sentence was more severe, but was reduced by the Naval Board. Edgar who was born in Dunedin, joined the Navy 20 years ago and served with great distinction during the Great War. He was the only Australian officer to take part in the raid at Zeebrugge. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
