NEW METHOD OF FLAX CUTTING.
DISCUSSED BY MILLERS. An executive meeting of the X.Z. Flaxmillers ’ Association was hold in Foxton on Saturday, presided over i>y the President. (Mr C. K. Spoirs). .Also present were; Messrs d. S, Moir, A. L. Seifert, 11. Berry, Geo.. Rough, W. Ross Jar., W. Nye, AY. Spoirs and the secretary (Mr if. R. Ogilvy Apologies for absence were received from Messrs E. Sutton, A. A. Brown, A. Fraser and Groig. In discussing, the benefits accruing from the “A” method of cutting llax, which is a system whereby the llax bush is cut from the base up in the form of am “A,” the President said that in the Wairarapa where the scheme has beer, in operation for some time, fiax can be cut every three years for milling. Mr H. Berry (Foxton) said that ho had flax in his yards at the mill winch was 10 feet long cut in the ordinary way off a swamp that had not received (lie benefits of “A” cutting. The President said that he had seen four-year-old flax no more than four feet high. Condition's had a great deal to do with the growth but in his opinion flic “A*’ method had certain advantages. It was decided that the President and Mr E. Sutton attend a conference to be held in Mr A. L. iSeifert’s office, Palmerston North next Saturday to meet representatives of the Union to discuss the fixation of a rate of pay for the “A” method of flax cutting.
