A cable yesterday reported that Miss Blanche Tobin, a member of the Church of England Zenana Mission, had been captured by Chinese bandits while going to her station at Kweilin./ Miss Tobin, who is a niece of the Rev. C. A. Tobin, of Burwood, was recently / in Christchurch on furlough from her mission station, which had been granted as a result of the disturbed state of China some eighteen months ago. About.. two months ago she received a from the bishop of the Chinese diocese in Which she worked requesting her re- • turn. She ,left'Christehurch about seven weeks ago/ Miss Tobin was reared pn Motiiti Island (Bay of Plenty), and until her departure on mission work had spent practically all her life among the Maoris.
