A controversy has been in progress concerning the airmen’s arrival on Sunday and the Anglican clergy of Wanganui met this morning and unanimously passed. a resolution protesting against the Sunday arrival on the following grounds: (1) that it is unnecessary for such special events to take place on a Sunday (2) that it interferes with the quiet and rest which ought to be features of Sunday observance (2) that .it interferes with Divine worship and with the training of children in Sunday schools (4) that it involves unnecessary Sunday labour. At the same time, however, a telegram was sent to Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith by the Churchwardens of one local congregation, inviting the visiting fixers to attend a service on Sunday evening. :
