THREE CANDIDATES FOR ONE WIROKINO SEAT. Nominations closed at noon to-day for the vacancy on the Ilorovvliouna County Council, caused by the rcsigna; tion of Cr. A. McLeavey, who was one •of the representatives of the Wiiokiuo riding. An election will lie necessary and will he held on October '4th, throe nominations having been received, the additional entrant being Air A. J. Gimblott, of Levin. The candidates arc as follow: — WILLIAM BALLOON, of Levin, , nominated bv Messrs H. Denton and . 4S. A. Broadbelt. . ALEXANDER AIcPHEE COLQUHOUN of Tangimoaha, nominated by Messrs A. S. Death and R. A. Rolston, ALFRED JAAIES GIMBLETT, of Levin. nominated -by Alessrs W, G. Adkin and T. G. Yineenn. ; OHAU FARMERS’ INTERESTS. APPRECIATION OF MR Me LEAVEY’S SERVICES, A meeting of the Oha.u branch of the Farmers’ Union was, held cm Thursday evening to discuss the question of placing a candidate in the field for the Wirokino riding of the County. No nomination was made for the by-elec-tion, but probably a candidate will be selected for the general county election to be held next Alay. ! It was through the influence of the Ohau branch of the Union that Mr AlcLeavey first stood for the Council, and at the meeting this week the following resolution was passed: —“That the Ohau branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, representing a large number of ratepayers of the .Wirokino riding, desire to place on record the valuable services rendered by Air Alfred AleLeavey during his term of office on the Horowhenua County Council. ’ ’
