' HORSE SALE. The N.Z, Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report having conducted a special horse sale at Levin yards on Monday, 17th lust. The entries which came forward were well up to advertised numbers and met with good competition. There was a good attendance of buyers from the surrounding district. A few very nice 4 and 5-year half and three-quarter draughts, offered on account of Mr W. Kilsby, realised from £25 10s to £4O. Quotations: 4 and 5-year f draughts £27 10s to £4O; 5-year half draughts £2O to £26 10s. Aged draughts £2O 10s to £34 Aged spring carters £8 10s to, £26 10s, 2-year | draughts £ls 10s; hacks £2. to £4. WEEKLY STOCK SALE. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report at Levin yards on -Tuesday, 18th. inst., they offered a small entry of sheep and a good yarding of cattle and pigs. All classes of stock met with a ready sale, with the exception of store and weaner pigs, the prices of which were easier. Sheep: Fat wethers 41s 6d, fat ewes 34s 9d. Cattle; Fat cows £7 to £9 7s 6d; forward condition, do. £4 10s to £5 ss; store do. £2 15s to £3 15s; forward condition heifers £4 10s to £4 16s; cows close to profit £lO to £l2; cows in milk' £6 to £7 15s; springing heifers £8 to £ll. > Pigs: Heavy porkers £2 10s to £3 7s 6d; light do 35s to 455; stores 17s to 295; weaners 7s 6d to 15s; pors £2 10s to £2 12s. FAT CATTLE ADVANCE. KEEN DEMAND FOB , 26 SPUING LAMBS CHKISTOHUKCH, last Night. Yardings in all classes at Addington market to-day were small but prices were well maintained. Entries for store sheep were smaller, than last weeks and the quality was again ordinary. Sheep. Hoggets showed a decline of about Is a head but there was little quotable change in adult sheep. Extra good sorts sold for 465, and 8-tooth crossbred owes to 40s 4.d; extra good 4, 6 and 8-tooth threequarter-bred to 39s| ordinary s.m. half-bred ewes to 28s; inferior half-bred ewes, 19s to 22s 6d; ewes and lambs to 18s 4d; best half-bred wethers to 335; ordinary half-bred wethers to 28s sd; shorn wethers to 25s Id; good half-bred ewe hoggets to 335; ordinary half-bred ewe hoggets to 2Ss; best threequarter-bred ewe hoggets to 365; ordinary threequarter-bred ewe hoggets to 27s 6d; ordinary threequarter-bred wether hoggets to 27s 6d; ordinary cross-bred wether hoggets to 22s 6d. Twenty-six Spring lambs were penned. There was a keen demand ami with the exception of one, all made over 40s, the top price being 44s 9d. The entry of fat sheep was of average size and the quality was good. There being many lines of excellently finished sheep forward. The sale opened well, with prices showing an advance of Is a head on late rates. The demand was erratic and this level was not maintained throughout but on an average, prices were fully to those ruling a week ago. Extra prime wethers sold to 53s 7d; prime heavy wethers, 43s to 48s; prime mediumweight, 37s 6d to 425; medium, 33s to 365; shorn, 26s lOd to 30s lOd; extra prime ewes, to 47s 4d; prime owes, 36s to 41s; medium, 29s to 345; aged and inferior, 24s 6d to 28s. Cattle. The entry of fat cattle totalled 443 bead, compared with 372 last week. Had it not been for lines from the West Coast of the North Island and Southland, the entry would have boon very small. The quality, on the whole, was good. The sale opened with keen competition, which was maintained until the end of the sale was one of the best at Addington for many mouths. On an average, prices showed an advance of froih 10s to 20s a head on late rates. Prices per 100 lbs. were: —Choicest beef, to 525; average prime, 44s to 48s; medium quality, 39s 6d to 42s 6d; plain heavy steers, 35s to 40s; prime cows and heifers, 45s to 47s 6d; medium, 39a co 41s 6d; rough, down to 30s. The range of prices was extra prime steers, to £25 7s 6d; prime steers, £lB 10s to £2l 10s; medium, £l6 10s to £lB 10s; ordinary, £l3 to £ls 10s; extra prime heifers, to £l7 17s 6d; prime, £l4 to £.16; ordinary, £lO 15s to £l3 od; light £6 7s 6d to £9 10s; extra prime cows to £lB 17s. 6d; prime, £l3 to £l6 10s; medium, £9 10s r,o £l2 10s; aged and inferior cows, £5 12s 6d to £S 10s. There was a small entry of -veaiers, mostly small calves, 12 to 18 months sorts, sold to £9 3s 6d; good vealers, £6 10s to £8 15s; medium, £3 5s to £5 15s; small calves, 20s to £2 10s. There was a small entry of store ■ cattle, consisting almost entirely of cows, which sold firmly at late ratesBest govts fetched £5 to £6 17s fid; medium, £3 5s to £4 10s; and inferior 20s to £2 15s. A comparatively small entry of dairy cattle was forward, cows terming tne bulk of the entry. Best second, third and fourth calves realised £9 to £l4; medium sorts, £6 to £8; inferior £3 10s to £5 10s; best heifers, £6 to £8 10s; inferior, £3 to £5. Pigs. A medium entry of fat pigs came forward, baeoners meeting with a good demand at late rates and porkers being easier. Choppers fetched 50s to £6 3s 6d; light baeoners, £3 7s to £4; heavy baeoners, £4 10s to £4 18s 6d; extra heavy baeoners to £5 2s 6d (average price per lb did to 7d); light porketk, 35s to 475;- heavy, 50s to 59s 6d (average price per lb. 7d to 8d). With an extra large yarding of all .classes of store pigs, prices showed a decline in the later stages. Small .weaners went at 10s to 12s; extra large, to 17s; small stores, 14s to 17s 6d; medium, 18s to 255; large, 26s to 325; i extra large to 40s; sows in pig, 20s to 57s 6d. , ■ /.';; ,
