SETTLING A DISPUTE.

MAGISTRATE’S NOVEL METHOD. AUCKLAND, Aug. 19. By confiscating a bronze trophy of a bulldog and removing it to his room. Air F. K. Hunt, S.M., adopted a com-mon-sense method of settling a dispute when W. 11. Worrall and J, W. Gumming, trustees of the National Bulldog Club of New Zealand (Air Rudd) claimed the trophy from W. J. Dunn (Air Sullivan), or its equivalent value, £lO, together with £o general damages. Air Rudd said that - the trophy was awarded to Airs E. Barker at the end of 1926 for her entry in the club’s show. She did not obtain possession of the trophy until November, 1927. Last February she left for England, leaving the trophy in the hands of Air Dunn. When the club heard of this it wrote to Dunn asking him to return the trophy. He replied to the effect that Airs Barker was entitled to keep the trophy for a year after receiving it,

Air Sullivan based his defence on those lines.

After looking into the rules of the club, Mr Hunt decided the holder was entitled to keep the trophy until the next show. ft was stated that no show had been held last year.

The magistrate then asked where Die trophy had been lodged. Mr Sullivan: In the safe at my cilice.

“ L- think it would save argument if 1 took- it into my possession until the next show,” said the magistrate, counsel agreeing to the wisdom iof the course. ,M r Hunt accordingly adjourned the case sine die, it being 'stated the club’s next show would probably take place in about a month.
