The Times Riga correspondent states that in pursuing the temperance campaign which the I'/.vestia characterises as a ray ,of light. in the realm of drunkenness, the Moscow' Labour Council has decreased vodka supplies.
Speakers emphasised that the reduction was imperative as the workers were inundating the authorities with petitions urging the Government to cease encouraging drunkenness by developing the Vodka monopoly as one of the chief sources of revenue. Meanwhile the .Government has ordered that the losses in towns be retrieved by greater "vodka sales in the country, arguing that vodka is less harmful than the samzgon home-made 'spirit consumed by ; the peasants. Izv ostia reveals that the vodka consumption has risen ten million litres from 1924 to -390 million;.ditres, last year, and 492 million litres for the first six months 1928.
