Professor Edward John Gwynn, lecturer in Celtic languages at the University of Dublin, has been appointed Provost of Trinity College, Dublin, says a Press cable received at 10.55 a.m.

,his legs fractured a few days ago, is reported to ,bc doing well. Mr. Brown was taken to Palmerston North and had his legs .after which he returned to the Otaki hospital. The accident was the result of jumping from a flax-dray which overturned.

Feeling reference was made at the meeting of the Manawatu provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union, in Levin on Saturday, to the death of Mr 11. A. Nevins, of Whakataki, Waxrarapa. The chairman (Mr O. P. Lynch) __ stated that the late Mr Nevins had served for a number of years on the Wellington provincial executive; he had also been on the Dominion executive, and was at one time Dominion treasurer. Mr Balsillie stated that the Union could ill afford to lose men of the late Mr Nevins’ standing. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives, passed at a committee meeting, was endorsed, the members standing in silence; and the secretary’s action in forwarding a letter of condolence was confirmed.
