PLUTOCRACY’S MORAL CURSE

RAMSAY MACDONALD’S SHARP WARNING. REMARKABLE ATTACK ON GREYHOUND RACING (Received Monday, 8.45 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 2. Ramsay MacDonald, at Blackpool, speaking in connection with the Latbour Conference, made a remarkable attack on greyhound racing. He said : ‘ 1 The paganising of modern living has invaded all classes. The moral curse of plutocracy is on us. You can see it in this greyhound racing. ‘ ‘ If our people require that feeling which sacrifices strong moral rectitude for the flash enticements of the day and hour as did the people of Rome, then you will he ruined as Rome was ruined.” MORE THAN ISOLATION, BRITAIN’S POSITION ON LEAGUE OF NATIONS. LABOUR M.P.’S OPINION. LONDON, Oct. 2. The Labour Party’s Conference opens to morrow at Blackpool. Mr. P. Roberts, M.P, chairman, in his address, denounces the undermining influence of the minority movement, which, he says, is endeavouring to destroy confidence in responsible leadership, and has energetically intrigued to sow discord throughout trade unionti, but to-day the industrial movement is solidly behind the political movement. Neither will it allow itself to be destroyed by enemies either within or without the gates. The Government’s foreign policy, ho said, had been a dismal failure, its hypocritical attitude towards Russia had lowered the dignity of the British Empire, and its policy in China was alternatively bullying and soft words. Sir Austen Chamberlain had placed Britain in a position of more than isolation on the League of Nations, which was the only secure foundation for ‘world peace.
