A POPULAR OFFICIAL.

PRESENTATION TO MR. R. MCLEAN. (Otaki Mail). Legal practitioners assembled at the S.M. Court at Otaki yesterday for the purpose of saying farewell to Mr. R. McLean, clerk of the Court, who has been transferred to the Te Aroha district, and to make -him a presentation. Mr. C. i\ Atmore, on behalf of the legal practitioners and Constable Satherley, said that he wished to make a presentation on the eve of Mr. McLean's departure and pointed out that all were very sorry to lose Mr. McLean although a change was often a great thing in life. He referred to Mr. McLean's courteous manner, referred to his efficient work, and wished him every success.

Constable Satherley said that he was very sorry Mr. McLean was leaving, and said that during his stay in Otaki he had always proved courteous and obliging, besides being of great assistance. Mr. McLean, he said, would be very much missed, and he took the opportunity of wishing him all prosperity.

Mr. R, J. Stavcley stated that he had resided in Otaki for the past 30 years, and had seen several clerks come and go, but he could honestly say none had boon more courteous than Mr. McLean. His only regret was that Levin had tried to take him away. He deeply regretted Mr. McLean !s departure, and assured the new clerk" (Mr. Inder) that if he treated solicitors ns Mr. McLean had done there was no reason why he should not become as popular as Mr. McLean.

Mr. McLea’n said that he was very sorry )o be leaving although he had applied lor the transfer. He thanked all for their •courtesy aiul stated that his stay in Otaki had been a most pleasant one, good feeling always existing. Mr. McLean then introduced Mr. Imler, and said no doubt he would prove able and obliging, and be a success.
