It is estimated that in a recent London traffic block over two acres of roadway were taken up by the packed vehicles.
At the reception of Miss Violet Cordery, who arrived in London on July 18, to complete her world tour by car. Lord Dewar came up to expectations w r ith a few epigrams. “Mo-tor-cars,” be said, “have been increasing by leaps and bounds, and pedestrians have been surviving by the same means.” Another one was: “The kangaroo is one of Nature's abortive efforts to try to make a safe pedestrian.” Here is one more; “In India you must have observed that tb 're are fewer motor-cars than in any other country; but the snakes makeup for the lack by killing 16,oi)0 people a year.”
One of the improvements of considerable importance, brought out during- the past few years of automotive research is the oil filter. This unit has been responsible for the elimination of excessive engine wear and frequent changing of oil, thereby minimising repair bills and operating expense.
Worn spots on nickel or places where it has chipped off can he improved by touching up with aluminium paint. While this does not make the most effective remedy, it helps considerably and may prevent further wearing or chipping.
A road five miles long has just been completed in Ventui’a County, California, to determine the most suitable type of concrete road for modern heavy traffic. The road is divided into sections 400yds. in length each section being of a different type of concrete.
