RENT BILL MAY BE HEARD OF AGAIN

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The question of why the Rent Restriction Bill was defeated by the Legislative Council earlier in the session was raised in the House today by Mr. R. McKean (WellingtonSouth) who asked if the Minister of Labour proposed to give tenants protection pending an improvement in the housing situation. Minister Anderson said it was not possible to reintroduce the Bill into the House. So far as the Legislative Council was concerned he understood that standing orders enabled the Bill to be brought up again, but whether that should be done or not was a matter for their consideration. He advised Mr McKeen to consult with the Leader of the Legislative Council in the matter.
