RACE WITH DETECTIVES.
MILE A MINUTE THROUGH SUB-
URBAN STREETS.
(By Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A thrilling chase occurred through suburban streets early this morning, when Constable Butler saw a man emerge from a shop-door, and enter a waiting motor-car. Being suspicious, the constable followed, on the pillion of a tramwayman’s motor-cycle, but the car escaped at a speed of over (10 miles an hour. Later detectives saw the car racing along Dominion Road. They followed in a passing car, at high speed, gradually overhauling until the runaway car went down a blind road. One of the passengers, a woman named ina Beatrice Wells, aged 27, was found hiding on the grass. The other occu pant escaped, but at 4.30 the police arrested Thomas Herbert Skinner, aged; 27, in bed.
Both were charged at the Police Court with breaking and entering, and; theft of chocolates valued at £9 10a. They were remanded, and bail was refused.
