ACCUSATION AGAINST CONSTABLE.
SOLICITOR DENOUNCES HIS METHODS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Serious allegations against a constable were made; during the Police Court hearing of the case in which A. M. Mansell was charged with using obscene language and resisting Constable Seandrett, who stated that accused swore at him when he tried to arrest him and then ran away. Replying to Mr Keary, counsel for accused, Constable Seandrett said it was not true that he threatened to kick Mansell and inflict! 'punishment and that when another constable arrived they went round the corner and carried out the threat. Mr Leary: 1 This constable has a system of goading people into saying things. He felt very deeply on this case as it involved au attack on a constable. The force v-as good as a whole, but now and then someone gets into uniform that does it little credit. This mantis not fit to hold the position he does. ,
Sub-Inspector Lewin: “That is strong language. * ’ Mr Leary: “I say it deliberately. This constable is very provocative.’’ Sub-Inspector Lewin said nothing had been reported against the constable. Mr Leary said he wished to call evidence to show that the constable had a systematic way 'of annoying people but the magistrate held such evidence to be'irrevelant. In the end accused said that the constable assaulted him by kicking him twice. . He.admitted using strong language.' The "magistral? said he didn’t believe some of accused’s statements and remanded him till Monday.
