WALKING STICK FASHION
Walking-sticks are to be carried
more than evCr by women.writes an overseas correspondent. The new sticks intended for women’s use are
delightfully feminine. They are enamelled in all the fashionable shades, and have crook handles finished with rich silk cord and tassels to match, and harmonise with one’s winter coat or costume. The days when women invariably carried umbrellas, and sallied out in cumbersome attire, are fast ’ passing. Now smart women cover an ordinary short, lightweight frock with o, cheerful looking waterproof, don a bright-coloured oilskin cap, attractively patterned cashmere stockings, -and sensible shoes, and face the elements with no concern about clothes. Such women add to their appearance, by carrying a stick. Few women ifke to be emjity-handed when walking. ' Umbrellas were once extensively used
by women as sticks. The short stubby style now fashionable are most Useless in this respect, thus affording
a most sensible reason for the general adoption of the walking-stick by ■wpmen. A short stick is as much a finish to a tailored ensemble as was once a tightly-rolled parasol, or the tall, beribboned staff to the highwaisted gowns of fashionable women of the Empire period.
