It is reported that Elvengren was executed some time ago, after terrible torture by the Cheka, culminating in his being taken to a prison where he was chained to a corpse and left for five days. He lost his reason, and was executed'while insane. M. Elvengren, whose name appeared in the list of 20 persons shot by order of the Cheka, was an ex-Cavalry officer, one of those who, with Captain Riley, of the British Intelligence Service, was alleged to have participated in the organisation of an attempt on the Soviet delegation at the ■Gefloa Conference, headed by M. Tchicherin, when the delegation passed through Berlin.
