Four armed Chinese entered the of an old man, Mr C. E. Geddes, formerly head of a well-known English firm in Shanghai, locked the Chinese servants in a cupboard, tied Geddes *s legs and hit him on the face and head with a levolver till he signed cheques totalling eight thousand taels. They released him in an exhausted condition after the cheques had been cashed.
