TRAM FARES INCREASED.
AUCKLAND’S TRANSIT LOSSES.

AUCKLAND, This Day,
The City Council adopted an increase of tramway fares from 4d to 5d in the cash fare over four or five sections, and 6d for longer distances, with corresponding increases in the concession tickets for the same distances.. It was stated that approximately £30,000 loss had been made as a result of running buses on too-low fares. This includes £16,000 depreciation on the buses. The increase _of revenue by the increased fares is estimated at £31,000.
The City Council approved tramway extensions, the purchase of fifty new trams and a bus garage; for which the ratepayers will be asked to vote a half a million loan.
